5G!Drones 2nd GA Meeting in Cosmote premises

5G!Drones H2020 project objective is to trial several UAV and drone use-cases taking advantage of the eMBB, URLLC, and mMTC services/slices that experimental 5G facilities across Europe, such as 5GENESIS, 5G-EVE and others, are offering.

Towards this, 5G!Drones project has specified business-wise valid use cases in the Drones market and industry, which will showcase efficiently the added value and advances by using 5G technologies.

NCSR “Demokritos” delegation at 5G!Drones project contributes actively on the successful execution of drones experiment in 5GENESIS platform, reassuring the assessment of KPIs related both with the 5G platform itself and the drone/UAV itself.

The project will feature Network Slicing as the key component to simultaneously run the three types of UAV services on the same 5G infrastructure (including the RAN, back/fronthaul, Core), demonstrating that each UAV application runs independently and does not affect the performance of other UAV applications, while covering different 5G services.

5G!Drones is a 5G-PPP project.

5G!DRONES Kick-off Meeting at Thales in France

The 5G!Drones kick off meeting took place 10-12 June in Paris, France.

5G!Drones aim is to test and validate several UAV use-cases (https://5gdrones.eu/use-case-scenarios/) covering eMBB, URLLC, and mMTC 5G services, and to validate 5G KPIs for supporting such challenging use-cases. The project will drive the UAV verticals and 5G networks to a win-win position, on one hand by showing that 5G is able to guarantee UAV vertical KPIs, and on the other hand by demonstrating that 5G can support challenging use-cases that put pressure on network resources, such as low-latency and reliable communication, massive number of connections and high bandwidth requirements, simultaneously. 5G!Drones (https://5gdrones.eu/) will build on top of the 5G facilities provided by the ICT-17 projects and a number of support sites, while identifying and developing the missing components to trial UAV use-cases.

5th International Conference on Telecommunications & Multimedia (TEMU2012)

Supported by NCSR “Demokritos”/IIT
and technically co-sponsored by IEEE/Communications Society (accepted articles to be included in IEEE Xplore library)

July 30 to August 01, 2012, Heraklion, Crete, Greece

Website: http://www.ieee-temu.org

TEMU2012 is an International conference under the technical co-sponsorship of IEEE/ComSoc, presenting new and original research results and the latest in the-state-of-the-art in Telecommunications and Multimedia. It fosters communication and discussions among researchers, scientists and students working in the design, implementation and applications of telecommunications and multimedia fields. The 2012 conference will provide a three-day Scientific Program, including presentations of invited and regular papers from researchers, manufacturers, academia and services providers. Authors are invited to submit novel, challenging and innovative results on both theoretical and practical aspects of the scope of the conference, which includes but is not limited to:

• Network & Service Infrastructures
• Beyond NGN
• Ad-Hoc and Mobile Networks
• Satellite & Space Communications
• Cognitive Radio & Dynamic Spectrum Access
• Optical Communications and Fiber Optics
• Broadcasting Future Media Internet
• Broadcasting Internet Platforms
• Cloud Computing
• Network Virtualisation
• Content aware networks & Network aware services
• IPTV, Mobile TV and P2PTV
• Service Architectures and Software Engineering
• Multimedia Authoring Tools
• Testbeds and experimentation
• Energy saving and green technologies
• Quality of Service and Quality of Experience
• Security, Privacy and Billing
• Electronic commerce and e-business

Submitted papers should not exceed 6 pages-long, following the Standard IEEE conference templates for MS Word or LaTeX formats. Papers should be submitted as PDF files through the EDAS system (http://edas.info). All submitted papers will be subject to three independent reviews and judged on originality, technical correctness, relevance, and quality of presentation. Accepted papers in TEMU2012 will be also published in IEEE Xplore.

QoEMCS at EuroITV 2012

In the framework of the EuroITV 2012 (July 4 2012 @Berlin, Germany) the workshop of QoE for Multimedia Sharing will take place in parallel. The workshop is supported by Qualinet Cost action and I participate also in the Technical Program Committee (TPC). I believe that it is quite interesting to be supported by the QoE-related colleagues.

Conference Objective

Multimedia applications are becoming more and more part of our everyday life. With the fast development of social networks and exchange platforms, users interact with each other through multimedia content, from different places, using different platforms. In order to make these applications available and successful, all the elements involved in the chain between multimedia content production and consumption have to work together with one goal in mind : maximising the Quality of Experience on the user’s side. This global issue requires taking into account a high variability of devices, networks, users and consumption scenarios, while addressing technological constraints related to the available resources in terms of network capacities, computation power and storage. In order to gain more knowledge on the provision and assessment of Quality of User Experience, new parameters have to be considered, such as from the psychophysical and environmental context. These efforts are further justified by the emergence of new multimedia concepts and applications, such as 3DTV, Free Viewpoint TV and Mobile TV, which include complex interactions with the users and with their environment. The QoEMCS workshop has been part of the last two editions of EuroITV. The third edition will once again focus on QoE and multimedia interactions, centered around the evaluation and optimization of interactions between users across different places and platforms.
