5GENESIS experimentation methodology at Global 5G Event in Valencia


In mid-June Valencia hosted two major ICT events, the Global 5G Event and the EuCNC conference. The so-called #Valencia5Gweek had a great success, since scientists and engineers all over the world gathered and presented their latest advances in the 5G field.

Among the various topics presented, I honored to be invited in the main track of the Global 5G Event in order to present the principles of the 5GENESIS experimentation methodology, which has been successfully used in phase 1 of the planned experiments.

The session was dedicated to 5G KPI measurement and how 5G KPIs can be measured in real environments, which is one of the core topics of 5GENESIS project. Moreover, the same methodology will be also used as part of some vertical industries tests that will be executed in the framework of ICT-19 projects on top of 5GENESIS infrastructure, such as 5G!Drones project.

The defined methodology is based on a modular and hierarchical approach, as presented in slide #4.

More specifically, an experiment is directly related to a target metric, which impacts the achieved QoE. Each metric in turn is dependent on one or more KPIs, from which on should be the target KPI and the rest are complementary ones that may have an indirect impact on the target KPI. Finally, in order to measure the KPI, specific test cases are defined under different usage scenarios, which are also dependent on the various flavors and configurations of the underlying slice.
